In a candid interview with The Times published August 31, actress Robin Wright, now 59, opened up about her decision to leave the United States and relocate to a quieter seaside community in England. The move, she admitted, has felt profoundly liberating.
According to Wright, who previously called Los Angeles home, she was ready to let go of the relentless pace and constant hustle. Being done with searching and settling for just 60 percent of what I wanted feels freeing,” she shared, bluntly dismissing America as “a s show.” She revealed that she and her partner, architect Henry Smith, are renting a coastal home in England, where the atmosphere offers a welcome contrast to her former life .
Wright praised life on her new home turf. She described England as a place where there’s a freedom of self, and where people seem more present“not stuck in traffic, rushing phone calls, or scarfing down a sandwich on the go all hallmarks of her previous life in L.A. .
The noise and constant construction in Los Angeles also weighed on her. “Everyone’s building a huge house, and I’m just done with all that I love the quiet,” she noted. And, she added, perhaps the most fulfilling part of her move was meeting someone who truly saw and valued her. That someone was Smith, and their story began with a humorous first encounter at a pub: He goes, ‘Who the f are you? and I said, ‘Who the c are you?’ she recalled with a smile .
As Wright edges closer to 60, she acknowledged a shift in priorities: I’ve been alone plenty, but now I think, ‘I want to grow old with somebody, travel, and enjoy life.’ Her words reflect not just a geographic relocation, but a deeper search for peace, partnership, and meaningful connection
